Don't worry, you're right here.

I'm already working on the article.

Another of the exciting topics, although at first glance it may seem that domain name is a banality. But believe me, it's not quite like that.
But first, let's explain what a domain is. Simply, it is the text name of your website on the Internet (www.yourdomainname.com), which points to the hosting company's server where you have stored all the digital data of your website.
However, if we want to explain it exactly, it is a text representation of the server's IP address to which the visitor connects when surfing the Internet. The IP address contains only numbers and periods. It can look, for example, as follows: 195.572.43.1. But can you imagine writing IP addresses instead of google.com? It would be challenging to remember.

Domain names most often contain letters, numbers, dots, hyphens, or a combination of both. For example, your-domain.com, yourdomain123.com, and so on. Information about which IP address each domain should point to is stored in DNS (Domain Name System) servers.

We distinguish domains according to levels:

  1. first-level domains, we also call them TLDs (top-level domains). They can be generic (.com .net .org .edu ...) or national (.us .au .co.uk .eu ...)
  2. second-level domain, this is the name of your domain + TLD. In my case, it's buckstodonuts.com My site is on a second-level domain.
  3. third-level domains or called subdomains, their management or creation are under the domain owner's administration. Many companies or bloggers use them, for example, if they want to set up an online store to sell merchandise and want to have it separate from their main website. For example, if I wanted to make an e-commerce shop and sell merch on buckstodonuts.com and I would like to use a subdomain for it, it would look like this: shop.buckstodonuts.com (shop. is a subdomain). The advantage of a subdomain is, all the data are in different directories. In case of a problem, your main page is not affected. For example, there is a situation: I have my blog on the domain buckstodonuts.com. My eCommerce shop is on the subdomain shop.buckstodonuts.com. I made modifications to the eCommerce shop, and something went wrong, so the shop did not work and broke the whole page on the subdomain, but I can't fix it, and I have to delete it. But I'm lucky because he was on a subdomain, and with my blog happens nothing. Many bloggers use subdomains to disrupt a well-established blog if they do not want to register a new domain to sell merchandise because no one wants to risk (despite backing up their site) to ruin their perhaps several years of work.

As with article hosting for WordPress, there is an incredible number of domain resellers on the market. They differ mainly in the price per domain (the differences can sometimes be huge) and other services. But what services can there be when selling domains? For me, one of the most important, if you want to avoid spamming your e-mail box in the future and protect your data as a domain registrar, is WHOIS protection.

Don't know WHO.IS is? That's okay. I didn't realize it before either.
WhoIs is not just a fancy phrase. WhoIs is a programmer's query to the database to determine who is responsible for the domain or IP address.

domain name whois homepage

It means that if you are going to register your domain with any registrar, you must provide personal information about the person or company that is going to register the domain. Name, Surname, Address, Company name (if you register the domain as a company), e-mail, telephone number. This data are in the ICANN database (International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). The data are available both on ICANN and in the WHOIS database, and anyone who has access to the Internet and knows your domain name can find out who owns it.
Whois is a database of all domain names in the world. Of course, spammers as well. They use automated software to obtain your data - but they are most interested in your e-mail. Usually, when registering a domain name, everyone lists the primary e-mail they use. However, ICANN tries to prevent automatic data downloads by security via Captcha or restricting searches from a single IP address.

Did it also happen to you that suddenly you started getting a lot of spam? It's because your e-mail address is on the list of spammers, and they began their work. Send thousands of e-mails for one purpose only: to make money from you (sending various offers for products or services. In the worst case, try to get to the details of your credit card or internet banking. They use very sophisticated methods - the main thing is to click on their link in an e-mail you received in your inbox (we can discuss this in more detail in another article).

How to prevent it? There are two options:
1. You can purchase a paid service directly on the who.is site - WHOIS Protection for 25 USD for one domain directly on WHO.IS
2. Register a domain through a service that allows this directly during registration. Some registrars (NameSilo for free) have it for free included in the domain price, and others for extra pay for this service each year (prices for this service may vary).

I use the second option. As I wrote above, there are many domain registrars, and many also offer hosting and vice versa (all hosting providers offer the option of domain registration. Many times the prices per domain are high or do not provide the WhoIs service. It is also customary that if you buy hosting, you have a free domain for a year, but I do not use these services. I buy domains separately and hosting separately).

What reseller do I use for registering a domain name?

I use namesilo.com to register domains. Why? Fair price for domains (see prices for domain name), WhoIs included in the price of the domain, good and simple administration, and creating a logo (free service). After editing, the DNS records are changes within a few minutes. If you are buying domains separately and hosting separately, you must change the domain's DNS records. If you don't change it won't know how to assign hosting to the domain, and your site won't work (at the end of the article are step-by-step instructions on how to change DNS in a few minutes).

Checkout page in Namesilo. How you can see below WHOIS protection is for free.

1. Register a domain on namesilo
2. Change the DNS record at namesilo to the DNS record of my hosting provider (article how I chose fast hosting and why here)
3. Add the domain in Cpanel in the hosting admin (below is the exact description of how to change the DNS record of the domain in the namesilo administration)
4. Done, now install WordPress with one click (complete instructions on how to install WordPress here)

I am using A2Hosting, so you will see exactly how to add a domain for A2Hosting. A review of why I chose this hosting read here.

What is the best WordPress hosting for a website?

Each of you asks this question. Right? On the market, we have a massive number of providers to choose from. In this article, I will summarize it clearly so that even a complete beginner can understand why hosting is one of the most important things when creating a website on CMS Worpdress.

You will find many articles on the Internet where everyone defends their product or service. It is entirely normal. It was also a dilemma for me, which hosting to choose. In the beginning, shared hosting will be enough for me. The advantage is that it is affordable.

However, it also has disadvantages - one of the biggest may be speed. Many shared hosts struggle with this, and not always the cheapest or most expensive is the best. Below is my opinion on why and how I choose hosting for my website. Each of you then decides for yourself. Always ask yourself a few questions so that it does not happen to you that after a particular time, the hosting provider will not suit you or will not have a plan that would satisfy your requirements:

For example:
Will I only have one site?
Will I write there?
Will I upload a lot of photos, videos?
Where will my visitors come from?

There are tons of hosting providers on the market today.

Parameters that decided in my choice of hosting:

Unlimited number of websites - at least 10 websites for one plan
(because I know I will have more websites. Where to buy domains with owner privacy read in this article)

Unlimited disk space - at least 40 GB disk space
(because I know that I will also create websites demanding storage data - photos, files, etc.)

Unlimited number of email boxes (because I know that I will have many email addresses for several websites, such as webmaster, info, support, shop, no-reply ...)

Website loading speed
(because I know I don't want to lose visitors. Nowadays, no one wants to wait a "hundred years" for a page to load. We are living in a fast age, and people are used to a certain standard)

Free SSL and CDN
(because I know without SSL, Google will label my website as dangerous and not recommended to visitors)

Free Backups
(because I know that anything can happen and I will not risk losing all files, data, articles for past months, years)

Fast Support
(because I know that if I need to solve something urgently, I will not wait for an answer for days, weeks, years)

Complete report on all files - best via Cpanel
(because I know that I need full control of my files, data ...)

Install WordPress with a few clicks
(because I know we live in the digital age, and I don't feel like installing WordPress by copying files via FTP to directories as it was in begging)

The following hosting companies were shortlisted: A2Hosting, Kinsta, SiteGround, Hostinger, Bluehost, ScalaHosting, GreenGeeks, DreamHost.

After comparing the plans, I chose A2 hosting (I will also prepare a more detailed article comparing the others and why a2 hosting won for me).

a2hosting-shared-hostings-plans

It provides a lot of "music" for a monthly fee of USD 25.99 (this is the highest plan for shared hosting). I choose the Turbo Max plan. Includes boost for the page load and is even 20 times faster than regular shared hosting. I have been using this hosting for about five years. I am delighted with the page speed. After all, no one wants their page to load for more than 3 seconds. Why? Website loading more than 3 seconds will result in up to 50% of your visitors leave. Google does not like if the website is loading longer than 3 seconds, resulting in a reduction of SERP positions.

For simplicity, if your site loads slowly, you lose visitors, your bounce rate increases, and Google advises you to a lower position on the results page. And, likely, the visitor will not return to your site.

Of course, not only hosting results in the speed of loading a website. There are several factors. But if you have slow hosting, further WordPress optimization will not help you much. The main element is fast hosting. As for the blogs, applies content is king, so for hosting uses, speed is king

In my opinion the essential factors for the best speed of your website.
1. Hosting
2. CDN
3. WordPress optimization (Cache plugin, SEO, PageLoad ...)

We can take a look at the 10 best free traffic sources in 2021. Traffic for a blog or any page is the most important thing. But for a brand new blog, it will take some time if we want to rank faster and not just rely on google. You should be active outside the blog and build a functioning ecosystem with one goal - to direct visitors to your blog.

There are more techniques and resources for quality traffic. It will cost you nothing, but it's not free. The price is your time and work. But it pays off. After all, a blog is not a one-time affair.

If you thought that I would give you a secret formula or a unique source code, thanks to whom your website will have from day to day thousands of visitors close this article, turn on youtube and dream more about a successful blog and life.

But I'll show you techniques that work with real results. I will show you how to think when building free traffic. This blog is also new. It also has no visitors, no backlinks, etc. I will do exactly what I will write to you here. Of course, I will show you the results.

Do you know why 95% of new blogs disappear? Because people who start with blogging miss one thing. One thing only. It's quite simple.

It's not geniality. You do not be a rocket scientist to start blogging and be successful.
It's not talent. There are many unsuccessful talented people.
It's not education. The world is full of educated fools.
(This sentence fully captures it, and I used it from my favorite movie Founder, I recommend watching it).

So what is it?

It's perseverance.
Yes, the old good persistence and determination. There is strength in persistence and determination. What does it mean? The results will come. You have to continue and not give up. It does not mean that it will be so in a month or two if your blog has no visitors today.

Let's go back to the sources of traffic. For each source, I will summarize it, in a nutshell, to explain why it is listed. We will discuss these sources in detail in the following articles (important traffic details about each medium below).

I would sort it as follows:

  1. Pinterest
  2. Quora
  3. Medium
  4. Reddit
  5. Linkedin
  6. YouTube
  7. TikTok
  8. Instagram
  9. Facebook groups
  10. Niche related websites & Forums

Building traffic with these social media won't cost you anything, but it won't be free. Yes, you have to invest your time and be perseverant. But don't worry in the next articles I will explain in detail, how you can with small hacks be more effective and grow faster and get free high-quality traffic to your website. For data details for each source, I used similarweb.com (perfect free tool, you have to start using it!).

1. Pinterest

Average monthly visitors: 1,3 Billion | Avg. Visit Duration: 00:04:48 | Pages per Visit: 4.78 | 43% visitors comes from the USA

A very powerful platform that can send you high-quality traffic. You know that the main visitors of Pinterest are people who want to buy something and they use it as a search engine. For a complete step-by-step guide on how to be successful on Pinterest, I will write another article.

2. Quora

Average monthly visitors: 537.5 Million | Avg. Visit Duration: 00:02:44 | Pages per Visit: 2.10 | 40% visitors comes from the USA |

Main visitors are people who are searching answers for questions. You can find there very high-value content. You can find questions that are related to your niche and write a high-value answer and include a link to your blog (but don't be spammy, quora is uncompromising for spam). You can create your own space (like groups on Facebook) and write articles with links or find other spaces where you can write answers or articles with links. But don't forget less is sometimes more. High value is the key for Quora.

3. Medium

7. TikTok (website)

Average monthly visitors: 728.4 Million | Avg. Visit Duration: 00:03:11 | Pages per Visit: 7.38 | 27% visitors comes from the USA |

TikTok is primary for smartphones but the website version you can use for uploading videos. For me is more comfortable, but if you need to add a description to your account you have to do it in-app.  TikTok is very powerful if you know how to use it. I will write a separate article for it.

8. Instagram (website)

Average monthly visitors: 6.1 Billion | Avg. Visit Duration: 00:07:44 | Pages per Visit: 10.91 | 18% visitors comes from the USA |

Instagram like TikTok is primary for smartphones but if you connect it to your Facebook you can make posts from the computer. I will write a separate article for it and why use it from the computer.

9. Facebook groups

Average monthly visitors: 25.3 Billion | Avg. Visit Duration: 00:10:35 | Pages per Visit: 8.25 | 22% visitors comes from the USA |

Numbers are for facebook because is hard to found out how many visitors have groups. But with groups, you can very nicely target your audience (but don't be spammy). Perfect is also that Facebook ads are not shown in the Facebook group feed. Another awesome thing is that Facebook promotes groups.

10. Niche related websites & Forums

You can find many niche websites or forums that allow you to add content or comment with a hyperlink to your website. A big advantage of this kind of website or forums is the targeted audience. But remember don't be spammy or get a ban.

Just use google and type your niche and search (also you can use google prediction, write your niche keyword+space and see what ideas google serves you). I am always using Incognito advanced search because I want relevant results that are not affected by my search history (you can set up for what country you can search etc).

Below are examples for beauty niche (I know beauty is a very general term but it is only a sample of how to search).
